Junior Olympic Games 2008, Jump rope 30 Jul ~ 2 Aug 2008
This campaign was supported by Paya Lebar
Methodist
Girls School(Primary) and Rulang
Primary
School and is
sanctioned by Rope
Skipping
Singapore.
This was a four days jump rope competition at Detroit, USA where
all the top
rope skippers in America and the world compete for the coveted Junior
Olympic Games medal. After 2 months of preparation including the final
3
weeks
of daily training we started our adventure in America.
The Singapore Team of 24 rope skippers garnered 2 gold, 7 silver, 7
bronze medals and 24 ribbons (4th
to 10th place). Our 2 show teams were placed a very respectable 4th and
5th.
The 4 peaks of the Singapore Rope Skipping Team's performance must be:
1. Ben winning the Freestyle Individual
2. Ariel winning (2nd) the Individual Speed and Individual
Power (out of 70 competitors)
3. Double Dutch Speed Relay team of 10 yr olds beating
52 teams in the 12&U age division to win and matching the Junior
Olympic record of 556.
4. Both show teams coming in just behind the medal winners.
The whole team including the larger team of
parents, assistant coaches and school staff had a once in a lifetime
adventure preparing and participating in the Jr Olympic Games. Our rope
skippers made
tons of friends in
Detroit and the Americans
are asking us to come back for the next Junior Olympic Games.
